Photovoltaics

The term "photovoltaics" stems from Greek and is composed from the terms "photos" (Greek "light") and "volta" (the physicist Alessandro Volta). It is often shortened to PV. Photovoltaics means the conversion of solar energy into electrical energy by means of solar cells.

Fotovoltaics

Two different spellings (fotovoltaics/photovoltaics) are in use. However, the photovoltaics variant is much more common in English.

Laminators

Laminators protect the sensitive material in solar modules during one of the most important production stages. A solar module consists of a glass substrate onto which an electric current producing layer is deposited, as well as a rear cover made of glass or plastic (foil). This highly sensitive sandwich consisting of glass, electric current producing layer and rear cover must be protected against climatic conditions. The special encapsulating process in a laminator guarantees such protection.

ICOLAM

ICOLAM is part of the Meier Solar Solutions GmbH product portfolio. The ICOLAM lamination system is also described as a flat bed laminator. ICOLAM model 36/21 is the world’s first laminator to be granted German TÜV certification (TÜV: German Technical Inspection Authority).

STACOLAM

The stack laminator STACOLAM is an innovation from Meier Solar Solutions GmbH of Bocholt/Germany and represents a further important part of Meier’s product portfolio. STACOLAM is suitable for crystalline and thin-film processes and replaces up to four conventional flat bed laminators. As far as production capacity is concerned, STACOLAM is the world’s largest and most productive laminator.

Stack laminator

STACOLAM from Meier Solar Solutions GmbH is frequently referred to as a stack laminator. The stack laminator laminates solar modules on several levels. With a maximum construction of up to 15 levels, it replaces four conventional laminators.

Multi-level laminator

STACOLAM  from Meier Solar Solutions GmbH is also described as a multi-level laminator because it produces simultaneously on several levels.

PV laminator

The expression PV laminator simply refers to a photovoltaic laminator. PV is a widely used abbreviation for photovoltaic.

Laminator

The laminator encapsulates the highly sensitive material in solar modules, thus providing protection against external influences. In this way, the laminator takes on one of the most important tasks in the solar module manufacturing process.

Solar

Solar is derived from Latin. We understand solar to mean objects and methods which are concerned with the sun (Latin: sol).

Solar laminators

The ICOLAM model 36/21 solar laminator is the world’s first laminator to be granted German TÜV certification (TÜV: German Technical Inspection Authority). STACOLAM is the world’s largest and most productive laminator. STACOLAM is also known as a multi-level or stack laminator.

Stack laminator

Stack laminator is the English translation for STACOLAM, the world’s largest and most productive laminator. Meier Solar Solutions GmbH of Bocholt/Germany was the first plant and equipment manufacturer to develop and build the stack laminator.

Solar laminator

A solar laminator encapsulates highly sensitive material, thus protecting it against climatic conditions.

Flat bed laminator

The ICOLAM laminator from Meier Solar Solutions GmbH is described as a flat bed laminator. Flat bed laminator model 36/21 is the world’s first laminator to be granted German TÜV certification for machine safety (TÜV: German Technical Inspection Authority).

PV modules

PV modules is the abbreviation for photovoltaic modules. PV modules are also commonly referred to as solar modules. PV modules contain a large number of small solar cells.

PV laminator

PV is the abbreviation for photovoltaic. Accordingly, we understand PV laminator to mean a photovoltaic laminator. Special equipment manufacturer Meier Solar Solutions GmbH from Bocholt/Germany is considered to be the world market leader in this sector. With more than 290 PV laminators, Meier Solar Solutions GmbH has the world’s largest base of installed equipment in the entire solar market.

PV

PV is the abbreviation for photovoltaic. Frequent reference is made to PV modules, PV systems, PV plant, PV laminators, PV processors, PV equipment etc.

Thin-film modules

Thin-film technology refers to one of the main production processes for solar modules. According to industry and market experts, the market for thin-film modules will grow in the coming years. With more than 290 machines for encapsulating thin-film modules, Meier Solar Solutions GmbH has the world’s largest base of installed equipment in the entire solar market.

Crystalline solar module

The dominant manufacturing process in terms of production capacity and output is currently based on crystalline technology. Crystalline solar modules have a high degree of efficiency and require little space. System costs for crystalline solar modules are therefore very low.

Quick-Clamping

Quick-Clamping is a quick clamping system developed by Meier Solar Solutions. It reduces the time to replace used membranes to less than 20 minutes, whereby a maximum of two employees are required for the replacement operation. Until now, membrane replacement was time-consuming, laborious and very costly. The patented Quick-Clamping System by Meier Solar Solutions saves time and money due to shorter downtimes and can be retrofitted to many laminators.

Heating plate

The heating plate is the "heart" of the laminator. The heating plate brings the solar module to be encapsulated to an optimum temperature.

Solar module

A solar module consists of a large number of solar cells. The solar module converts sunlight into electrical energy with the aid of these cells. A solar module is a "sandwich" consisting of glass, electric current producing layer and rear cover.

Renewable energies

Renewable energies are all sources of energy which are available to mankind in infinite quantities. Examples of renewable energy are solar and geothermal energy.

Solar cell

A solar cell is the heart of photovoltaic equipment. The solar cell generally consists of silicon. It absorbs the light of the sun and converts it into electrical energy.
